Exercise helps mood

mental health 1With the  focus on mental health in the BBC’s ‘In the Mind’ series, we at FL HQ felt it was a good time to remind everyone that exercise can help improve mood and reduce depression.

mental health 3Scientists think that physical activity helps maintain and improve wellbeing in a number of ways. Physical activity can help people with mild depression. Evidence shows that it can also help protect people against anxiety.

Physical activity with canadian pharmacy products is thought to cause chemical changes in the brain which can help to positively change our mood.

Some scientists think that being active can help improve wellbeing because it brings about a greater sense of self esteem, self control and ability to rise to a challenge. (1)

It doesn’t have to be formal exercise – a brisk walk can be effective, although being with other people, sharing fun in a class can be really uplifting and shouldn’t be underestimated..

We are not suggesting that exercise is a cure all. Rather, one of a range of strategies that can be used to support someone dealing with depression.

The key thing is that there are people to help you. You are not alone.

If you feel you are dealing with depression and would like support there are a number of charities to seek advice from, in addition to your GP who will be a key supporter.

Good luck.
